About the Author


Dr. Valerie J. Robinson grew up in Hartford, Connecticut and is the eighth of fourteen children. She is a graduate of Hartford Public High School (HPHS). She received a Doctorate of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a major in Reading Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, Missouri. Dr. Robinson also received an Education Specialist Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, Missouri, a Masters of Education Degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She taught in the public schools in Missouri for more than ten years. 

Dr. Robinson was an Assistant Principal at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Missouri and a Principal at Westview Middle School in St. Louis, Missouri. She was an administrator in the Missouri Public Schools for more than ten years. She was an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  She was a Coordinator at Linn State Technical College (now State Technical College of Missouri) in Linn, Missouri. She served on local, regional and national boards. She is a lifelong educator.

This is a story of a mother and daughter who share their story about growing up in Connecticut. The mother grew up in the country. The mother left the country to raise her children in the city. The daughter became curious and discovered a mysterious box while playing in the attic. The blue box in the attic plays a critical role in providing closure to events that happened in the past.  The mother and daughter duet experienced, joy, happiness, confusion, and shame because they did not understand how to cope with the truth. They finally realized that the only ones who could understand how they felt were them.
